NFL Week 8 in Review

Here are some of the notable plays, stats, and such for Week 8.

Denver Broncos vs. San Francisco 49ers- 24-16 49ers:
  • Game in neutral ground in London, England
  • 49ers are the most penalized in the NFL this season
  • Top Passer: Kyle Orton, Broncos, went 28/40 for 369 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception 
  • Top Rusher: Frank Gore, 49ers, with 29 carries for 118 yards and 1 touchdown
  • Top Receiver: Brandon Lloyd, Broncos, with 7 catches for 169 yards and 1 touchdown
  • Tim Tebow, Broncos rookie, had 1 rushing touchdown
  • Kyle Orton, Broncos, had the only fumble and it was recovered by Takeo Pikes
Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Dallas Cowboys- 35-17 Jaguars:
  • Top Passer: Jon Kitna, Cowboys, 34/49 for 379 yards, only 1 touchdown, and 4 interceptions
  • Top Rusher: Maurice Jones-Drew, Jaguars, had 27 carries for 135 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Top Receiver: Mike Sims-Walker, Jaguars, had 8 catches for 153 yards and 1 touchdown
  • Top Cowboys Receiver: Miles Austin had 7 catches for 117 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Kitna, Cowboys, picked off 4 times; 3 in and out of receivers arms (Felix Jones, Miles Austin, and Roy Williams) and 1 that was 100% his fault
  • David Garrard, Jaguars, in the first half went 10/10  for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns
  • David Garrard had a career setting game 17/21 for 260 yards and 4 touchdowns and 1 touchdown rushing (tied franchise record for most touchdowns, passing, in a single game)
  • The Jaguars had 3 sacks on Kitna; 2 by Derek Cox and 1 by Tyson Alualu
  • The Cowboys had 3 sacks on Garrard; Anthony Spencer and Victor Butler both had 1 and both Sean Lissemore and Stephen Bowen shared a sack and was recorded for a .5 sack.
Miami Dolphins vs. Cincinnati Bengals- 22-14 Dolphins:
  • Top Passer: Chad Henne, Dolphins, 24/37 for 217 yards, no touchdowns, and 1 interception
  • Top Rusher: Cedric Benson, Bengals, 20 carries for 69 yards
  • Top Receiver: Terrell Owens, Bengals, 5 catches for 65 yards and 2 touchdowns
  • Top Dolphins Rusher: Ronny Brown with 16 carries for 61 yards
  • Top Dolphins Receiver: Brandon Marshall with 5 catches for 64 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Davone Bess, Dolphin Receiver, fumbled which was recovered by Michael Johnson
  • Dolphins sacked Carson Palmer once by Sean Smith
  • Bengals sacked Chad Henne once by Morgan Trent
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Buffalo Bills- 13-10 Chiefs:
  • Top Passer: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bills, 24/48 for 223 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception
  • Top Rusher: Jamaal Charles, Chiefs, 22 carries for 177 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Top Receiver: Roscoe Parrish, Bills, 4 catches for 66 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Top Chiefs Receiver: Jamaal Charles with 4 catches for 61 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • 2 sacks on Matt Cassel, Chiefs, by Kyle Williams and 3 sacks on Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bills, by Wallace Gilberry and Tamba Hali, also Tamba Hali and Andy Studebaker shared a sack both recorded with a .5 sack (Hali 1.5 sacks for the game)
  • 24 first downs by the Bills and 23 by the Chiefs
  • Overtime with a score of 10-10
  • The Chiefs make a 35 yard field goal with 0:00 left in overtime
Washington Redskins vs. Detroit Lions- 37-25 Lions:
  • Top Passer: Matthew Stafford, Lions, 26/45 for 212 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception
  • Top Rusher: Kevin Smith, Lions, 12 carries for 51 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Top Receiver: Calvin Johnson, Lions, 9 catches for 101 yards and 3 touchdowns
  • Top Redskins Passer: Donovan McNabb threw 17/30 for 210 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception
  • Top Redskins Rusher: Donovan McNabb with 4 carries for 45 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Top Redskins Receiver: Anthony Armstrong with 3 catches for 92 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Mike Shanahan, Redskins head coach, benched Donovan McNabb for back up Rex Grossman because Grossman supposedly knew the 2 minute offense better than McNabb
  • Ndamukong Suh, Lions, recovered a fumble from Rex Grossman for a touchdown
  • Nate Burleson, Lions, fumbled and was recovered by London Fletcher
  • Albert Haynesworth, Redskins, sacked Matthew Stafford once

Carolina Panthers vs. St. Louis Rams- 20-10 Rams:
  • Top Passer: Matt Moore, Panthers, 23/37 for 194 yards, 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions
  • Top Rusher: Steven Jackson, Rams, 23 carries for 59 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Top Receiver: Steve Smith, Panthers, 9 catches for 85 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Top Rams Passer: Sam Bradford threw 25/32 for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns
  • Steve Smith, Panthers, fumbled and recovered by Chris Long
  • Matt Moore, Panthers, was sacked by James Laurinaitis, Oshiomogho Atogwe, and Chris Long
  • Sam Bradford, Rams, was sacked by James Anderson
  • 15 first downs for the Rams and 14 first downs for the Panthers
  • Rams time of possession was 36:28 and the Panthers was 23:32
  • On a flea flicker, Moore was intercepted and this was on the first play on offense for the Panthers

  • Top Jets Rusher: LaDainian Tomlinson with 17 carries for 46 yards and 0 touchdowns

  • Brad Smith, Jets, fumbled and recovered by Tramon Williams
  • Both quarterbacks were sacked twice; Mark Sanchez, Jets, sacked by Clay Matthews (9.5 sacks on the season) and Brandon Chilliar; and Aaron Rogers, Packers, was sacked by Dwight Lowery and David Harris

Tennessee Titans vs. San Diego Chargers- 33-25 Chargers:

  • Top Rusher: Mike Tolbert, Chargers, 11 carries for 63 yards 1 touchdown

  • Top Titans Rusher: Chris Johnson with 15 carries for 59 yards and 1 touchdown
  • Top Titans Receiever: Nate Washington with 4 catches for 117 yards and 1 touchdown

  • Jason Babin, Titans, sacked Philip Rivers
  • Nick Schommer, Titans, blocked a punt by Mike Scifres in the endzone for a Titan safety.
  • A 71 yard touchdown pass from Vince Young,Titans, to Nate Washington, went for 2 point conversion but failed
  • Chargers kicker wasn't able to even get a foot on the football for an extra point after a touchdown
  • Vince Young reinjured his injury he sustained during a game against a Monday night game in Jacksonville, Kerry Collins filled in
Minnesota Vikings vs. New England Patriots- 28-18 Patriots:
  • Top Passer: Brett Favre, Vikings, 22/32 for 259 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 1 interception
  • Top Rusher: BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Patriots, 17 carries with 112 yards and 2 touchdowns
  • Top Receiver: Percy Harvin, Vikings, 6 catches with 104 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Top Patriots Passer: Tom Brady threw 16/27 for 240 yards, 1 touchdown, and 0 interceptions
  • Top Vikings Rusher: Adrian Peterson with 25 carries for 92 yards and 1 touchdown

  • Patriots Mike Wright sacked Tarvaris Jackson once

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Arizona Cardinals- 38-35 Buccaneers:
  • Top Passer: Josh Freeman, Buccaneers, 18/25 for 278 yards, 1 touchdown, and 0 interception
  • Top Rusher: LeGarrette Blount, Cardinals, 22 carries for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns
  • Top Receiver: Steve Breaston. Cardinals, 8 catches for 147 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Top Buccaneers Receiver: Mike Williams with 4 catches for 105 yards and 1 touchdown
  • Cardinals quarterbacks was sacked by Stylez White. Josh Freeman, Buccaneers, was sacked by Will Davis and Joey Porter
  • Max Hall, Cardinals, threw a pick 6 to Geno Hayes and to Aqib Talib, his first pick 6 of his career

  • Top Rusher: Darren McFadden, Raiders, 21 carries for 111 yards and 0 touchdowns
  • Top Receiver: Darrius Heyward-Bey, Raiders, 5 catches for 105 yards and 1 touchdowns
  • Jason Campbell, Redskins, was sacked by Colin Cole and Kam Chancellor
  • Matt Hasselbeck was sacked by Tyvon Branch, Lamarr Houston, Matt Shaughnessy, and Tommy Kelly both got one hit on him. Richard Seymour and Kamerion Wimbley both sacked Matt twice each
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New Orleans Saints- 20-10 Saints:

  • Top Rusher: Rashard Mendenhall, Steelers, 15 carries for 71 yards and 1 touchdown

Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts- 30-17 Colts

  • Top Rusher: Arian Foster, Texans, 15 carries for 102 yards and 1 touchdown
  • Top Receiver: Andre Johnson, Colts, 7 catches for 106 yards and 1 touchdown
  • Matt Schaub, Texans, fumbled and was recovered by Eric Foster
  • Peyton Manning, Colts, was only sacked once by Mark Anderson. Matt Schaub was sacked by Clint Session once and Dwight Freeney twice
  • The series is tied 1-1 between these two
